Wait! Whaaat? Let that news sink in for a bit! We repeat, Ranveer Singh to play a bisexual character in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’sPadmaavat?

 Padmaavat stars Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles.

With Padmaavat, Ranveer Singh has gone to a whole different level of acting! The actor will be playing a bisexual. Yes! he is essaying the role of a powerful but shrewd ruler Alauddin Khilji who was a bisexual.

According to some historical accounts, Alauddin Khilji (portrayed by Ranveer Singh) laid siege to Chittor fort in order to capture Rani Padmini and was also madly in love with his chief advisor Malik Kafur. And the Neerja baddie Jim Sarbh is about to step into the role of Kafur. Reportedly, Kafur was a eunuch. We don’t know yet if in Padmaavat Jim will play a cis-gender man or a transgender man.

Jim Sarbh, who has been attracting massive positive responses for his portrayal of a eunuch for Alauddin Khilji in Padmaavat, said to media that working with a director like Sanjay Leela Bhansali who pays attention to every little detail, gave him an opportunity to try and be as good as the grand and beautiful frame. A director himself and a theatre actor, Sarbh, who has worked in films like A Death in the Gunj and Neerja, and performed live in several plays including Kalki Koechlin’s The Living Room and Rajat Kapoor’s What is Done, is Done, says it’s always an empowering experience to work with directors who are passionate about work.

"Ranveer Singh In Padmaavat film, you are pushed to be as good as the frame you inhibit, to have a presence that lives up to the intricate, grand, beautiful, operatic frame. I love trying to rise to that. I heard that Sanjay Leela Bhansali has an eye for detail, and it shows in his work, but seeing it first hand is a powerful experience” Jim told to IANS.

Besides Padmaavat, Jim will be essaying the role of a lover of an 80-year-old woman, who goes into the coma and recounts her time with him in her younger days in Aditya Vikram Sengupta directorial Jonaki, a Bengali film.  Work should speak for itself! That`s what this 28 years old man believes in. He says that Why watch a film with your thoughts on what you were trying to achieve already in your head, as opposed to going to the film, watching it, receiving your performance with fresh eyes, and then questioning yourself afterward?
