7 times women in Bollywood explained the actual definition of feminism!

Women Centric Bollywood    Films

How often is it that we find scantily-dressed women breaking into seductive dances on rashy moves in the middle of nowhere? Never! We are not challenging the way Bollywood portrays women, we are just stating that it is rare to find movies where the actuality of the society is reflected. At least! During they depict the genders. Lately, there`s been a huge debate about the very definition of feminism since Swara Bhaskar made a statement that "Padmaavat reduces women to the vagina only." So, here are some movies about women who are ambitious careerists, fearless lovers, relentless adventurers, and much more. The emotions here range from sassy to serious, thrilling to awe-inspiring, funny to intense. It’s great to see that Bollywood cinema has given birth to some of these wonderful female lead characters! Women aren`t just sided chicks or supporting actresses anymore. Here`s the list of characters that broke the stereotypical notion of feminism.Check out  list  of  women centric Bollywood films.

Kahaani- Vidya Balan
This is the story of a pregnant woman who is on a mission to find out her husband`s murderer. She`s strong and not willing to give up. This is a movie with one of the best climax scenes in the recent times. We wouldn`t spoil that for you and just recommend you to watch it ASAP if you haven`t already!
Astitva- Tabu
Tabu is one of the finest actresses that our industry has produced. And just like in any other movie, she shines in this one too. Here`s a story of a woman, who is punished for that one moment of weakness, which has been termed as a sin. The same sin if committed by her husband is let go off. The movie focuses on issues like male chauvinism, marital abuse and extra-marital affairs and how Tabu excels in all.

7 Khoon Maaf - Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka marries and kills in this movie, that`s something we all know. But what we missed out on is why does she do that? The answer would be the flaws that her husbands had. From sado-masochism to jealousy to excessive lust, there was some or the other flaws in all of her spouses which drove her to kill them. She has given an outstanding performance in this movie. That killing part is seriously too much. Let`s ignore that thing, all right?

Mardaani - Rani Mukerji
This film marked Rani`s comeback in the movies, and what a comeback it was! Mardaani is packed with action and a thrilling storyline revolving around a police officer, Shivani Shivaji Rai, played by Rani Mukerji. The film is all about standing up against social evil and fighting for it! Even if you have to fire a punch or two. Rani Mukherjee’s performance of a fierce cop in Mardaani perfectly showcases the hidden strength of a woman. Shivani Shivaji Roy not only single-handedly beat up some of the worst criminals but held her own against the evil doers. The perfect mix of strength and respect! Roy is an sheer inspiration!
Mary Kom - Priyanka Chopra
The story of a boxer, who goes on to become an Olympic Champion, Mary Kom is a biopic that gave inspiration to many. The movie traces Mary`s actual life story and shows how she never considered giving up on her dream at any circumstance. How Mary Kom went against her family and chased her dream to become a boxer is very inspirational. In a country like India where anything except doctor or engineer is not taken seriously as a career, especially for girls who are supposed to get married and look after their family, Mary Kom sets an example for all of us building a career in sports.
Neerja - Sonam Kapoor

Here`s a movie based on the real-life incidents of the very courageous Neerja Bhanot, a Pan Am flight attendant who lost her life while saving several others when her aircraft was hijacked. One of the most inspirational, yet tear jearking films of that year, Neerja was a tale that depicted a woman`s courage to break out of probably the toughest of situations, like a true winner.
Queen-Kangana Ranaut
If there is one character which touched everyone’s heart, it was that of Rani played by Kangna Ranaut in Queen. Rani’s transformation from a once shy and timid girl to a confident and liberated lady was amazing. The natural, innocent and effortless acting made Rani look like a real-life character and had the ability to inspire many girls to come out of the shadows and feel confident about themselves.
While talking about these, how can we forget about the root of all these hullaboos! i.e. the climax of  Sanjay Leela Bhansali`s Padmaavat. While many were awed by the ending scene, which features Padmavati (played by Deepika Padukone) walking in anger as other women join her to commit self-immolation, some criticised it for glorifying the practice of Sati and Jauhar. But in our opinion, it was so powerful. You do not feel like she is doing anything wrong. You want her to embrace the flames because she is going to be united with the man she loves. It is not easy to play a character who has to commit suicide, or jauhar, as it is called.
We were moved by her performance!
Got your list for tonight for a li`l motivation?
Peace.....!!!!
